A Little About Me...

I'm just a 31 year old chick from Rhode Island, married to a Canadian, tattooed, childfree, and a World of Warcraft addict. I fancy myself a photographer, or an artist, but who am I kidding - I count pills and sell drugs to junkies.

Disclaimer

I write about everything. If you don't like it, if it's too personal, if you don't want to hear it, if it offends you, if it's about you, I don't care.

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Merry Christmas to Casa McBride

Santa brought me a pony after 25 years of asking for one. He brought 3 of them actually. I got a 3-pack of re-released original My Little Ponies, which are now safely set up on the bookshelf where the ferret can’t steal them. Chaucer got me a copy of Die Hard 2 to go with the original that Eddie had bought a couple of weeks ago, and I got The Pillars of the Earth from Pickle. Eddie got me some toys, the King’s Quest Collection, and a copy of Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal (terrifically funny from what I’ve read so far), some Hello Kitty notepaper, and I got a bunch of clothes from other folks.

Everyone liked the snowflakes and angels that I’d crocheted, and breakfast at Dad’s was painless. The animals enjoyed their toys; Pickle has already hidden one of the jingly balls Eddie got her, and Chaucer spent about 5 minutes licking the catnip mouse he was given.

Last monkey post for a few days

Woot! Law & Order premier in 10 minutes! Must finish post before then!

Completely finished! The bride is finished. Eddie brought home a packet of beading needles and I put the beads on the neckline, in the flowers around the veil, and even managed to whip up a tiny pair of “pearl” earrings. I don’t want to give her up, I’m just that pleased with the way she turned out. Eddie brought in a swatch of the gown’s fabric today to show the woman who commissioned it and she loved it, so hopefully she’ll be pleased with how it all turned out. I really wish I could be there to see her face when he brings it in.

Her daughter is the one who got the stepdancer and is supposedly bringing that monkey into dance class this week, which means the possibility of several more stepdancer monkeys to be made. I emailed the woman I buy my socks from to ask if there’s any way that I can get bundle packs of just green and white socks. Hopefully I can find out by Friday.

I’d barely finished the bride when I’d received another commission, this one for a geisha, which should be a lot of fun to make. Friday I’m taking the car because I need to get my birth control filled and get a haircut, so I’ll hit the fabric store and check out some kimono fabrics.

Tomorrow I’m going to make a purse. I’m thinking pink with butterflies. Pictures to come, of course.

Monkey News

The stepdancer monkey got her tail put on yesterday in anticipation of going to her new owner today, but Eddie forgot her here at the house. Once I run the dishwasher I’ll put her by the door in the kitchen for him to bring tomorrow. The Irish bride monkey is coming along. I sewed up all the pieces the other day and stuffed the body, and I just sewed up the monkeycrotch. Unfortunately I don’t have enough stuffing to fill the other bits today, but Eddie should be picking some up for me when he leaves work. This one takes more stuffing because the socks were wider and longer; the legs are about 8″ longer than any other monkeys I’ve made. I’ll have to modify the dress pattern a bit so that the skirt part is longer, otherwise the monkeygirl will be in a miniskirt for the wedding.

Once I get done with this one, I’m going to make an effort to get a bunch of the smaller ones made out of all the socks I’ve got stashed in the sock-bag. Expect to see more of my original smaller monkeys showing up online again. I definitely need to get myself something to store all my sewing shit in. I’ve got fabric, thread, pins, and socks all over the place. There’s bits on the couch, and bits in the bags. Everywhere.

Monkey Update

Eggbert and LarryWhile we’ve been hanging out at the drive-in waiting for the movie to start, I’ve been finishing off monkeys. If I do the basics before I leave the house (stitching up the arms, legs, ears and tail) I can stuff and assemble one before the movie starts. The latest two are Eggbert and Larry. Eggbert is the smaller, egg-shaped one, and Eddie named the other one Larry for some reason.

I got the socks that I ordered last week, so I can start working on the 2 monkeys that I need to make. I bought the materials for the step dancer dress, and started sewing up that particular monkey. The only problem is that my sewing box is in the car, which Eddie has at work right now, so I can’t do much more than just stitch up the legs because I don’t have my scissors. My stuffing is also in the car (been making monkeys at the drive-in while we wait for the movie to start), but without the scissors I can’t stuff anyone. The only thing that I don’t really like about these socks is the fact that the foot part is solid rather than striped, so really the only part of the monkey that won’t be solid green is the arms and legs and tail. The main body and dress will be green. Thankfully, the 2 fabrics for the dress and the green of the monkey are all entirely different shades, so it won’t be too bad.

The other monkey I’m supposed to be in the process of making is another bride, this time in white (I think). For that one, I’m not sure if I’ll see if I can find a solid white thigh-high sock (good luck!) or use the light blue and white striped socks that came in the order. I think the light blue might actually look pretty nice and won’t require a second order or socks. The only thing that may get pricey with the bride is the fabric for the dress, but hopefully I can find something decent.

Meet Argyle Jack

Jack

I’m not sure what kind of dog this is. He’s black with red and white argyle and faint blue accents. Kinda cute, but definitely not the greatest little dog to come out of my machine.
