Eddie went back to work this morning. Hopefully he makes it through the day without hurting himself there.
We’re expecting snow tonight. Not a lot, but this being New England it could be either a blizzard or nothing at all. Here’s to hoping that just the mere threat of snow is enough to keep people in their houses and out of the pharmacy today.
We have done absolutely nothing today. We’ve sat at home and played WoW all day, went to Spike’s for lunch, then came home and played more WoW, which we’re still playing right now. We’ve gained one level and are about halfway to our next. Eddie just gave me an adult beverage of Coke and vodka, and I’ve got the tunes playing while we quest and trash talk the rest of the guild. Eddie bought me The Crane Wife by The Decemberists, which I’m loving at the moment.
We’re expecting snow tomorrow night. I’m less than thrilled. We’re going to my uncle’s house in the afternoon and then to Mom’s house for a movie. This week’s movie is Memento, which Eddie and I have seen before but no one over there has had the chance yet. With any luck it won’t start snowing until after we get home, and will just be flurries in the morning for the drive to work.
Oh, and Go Pats!
It snowed again last night. Right now it’s sleeting out there. I hate this weather.
The snow started at about noon yesterday, contrary to the weather reports saying there wouldn’t be anything falling from the skies until mid afternoon. What started with a few little flakes turned into a lot of little flakes very quickly accumulating at the rate of 2-3 inches an hour. We watched from the pharmacy as the roof of the porn store across the street turned white and the store traffic dwindled to nothing more than people wanting to come in and use our bathroom.
At around 3pm, Angela decided she’d be leaving in 30 minutes. She ended up sticking around for an hour, and I put my coat on at about 4:15pm, calling Eddie to let him know that I’d be leaving shortly. It took me close to 15 minutes to clean off the truck, but I was on the road and on my way by 4:30 or so. The truck is a 4×4, but I didn’t want to risk getting stuck in a drift in a strange neighborhood. I decided that the back roads were just as bad as the highway based on what I could see on the way towards the on-ramp, so I chose the highway under the assumption that they were clear, just clogged full of people, as opposed to the near-empty but snow-filled back streets. I was wrong, so very wrong.
I got stuck at the on-ramp to I-95 behind a man driving a tiny little Mazda that slid all over the place. I gloated behind him, silently thanking my lucky stars that I was in my giant Ford Explorer with its four wheel drive. We both made it down the ramp without problems, aside from the Mazda sliding all over the place. I eventually made it onto the highway without any problems until I tried to switch lanes to go around a trio of cars that had been mired in the snow, and discovered that either my 4-wheel drive isn’t working at all, or is just 3-wheel drive, because the nice guy who gave me a push through the drift pointed out that one of my front wheels wasn’t turning like it was supposed to be doing.
Lovely.

We left the house on Saturday afternoon, packing up a load of laundry and stuffing the ferret in my purse, and headed down to Mom’s house. We expected snow, and being unsure of whether or not we were going to get a dusting or a massive amount, brought Pickle with us in case we ended up staying the night. By late afternoon they were forecasting at least 9″-14″ across the state, with some spots getting more and the promise of whiteout conditions, so we decided that we’d stick around for the night. Even though it wasn’t supposed to start snowing until midnight, it was supposed to be nasty all day Sunday, and Eddie’s mother was planning on calling that day to wish me a happy birthday and play a game of pass-the-phone with the rest of the family, and if we were at home she wouldn’t be able to talk to me, so we stayed over Saturday night. We ended up staying over there last night as well, because the roads were still nasty.
My birthday was fine. Danielle came by on Saturday night with birthday cards from her and Dad, and then we went over there for a bit and chatted with him and Grandma for a while and played with Dad’s absolutely adorable new Bichon puppy. Then we all went back to Mom’s and watched a movie, caught some of the Olympics, and went to bed. We had a mini-birthday celebration with my Fudgie the Whale cake (which was fucking delicious) and opened cards, and then Mom forgot to give me my presents (jammies and some boots) until Brian went to bed and found them on their bed.
Mom and Eddie went to work together this morning, Danielle headed out at about 7:30am, and since we couldn’t determine whether or not I had school, I stayed home. No one particularly wanted me to drive up there on the shitty roads anyway.
And now, after eating dinner at Mom’s again for the 3rd night in a row, we’re home, fat and happy, with Pickle completely worn out and curled up in her fleecey hammocks.
