Chaucer (Geoff to his friends)

Listening to: REO Speedwagon - Take It On The Run
I'm just a 31 year old chick from Rhode Island, married to a Canadian, tattooed, childfree, and a World of Warcraft addict. I fancy myself a photographer, or an artist, but who am I kidding - I count pills and sell drugs to junkies.
I write about everything. If you don't like it, if it's too personal, if you don't want to hear it, if it offends you, if it's about you, I don't care.
I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

The ferret is definitely enjoying having free run of the new place. This morning Pickle chased Chaucer all over the apartment. They went over furniture, onto and under the bed, there were attacks from above and ambushes from behind. And then finally Chaucer just laid down, put his ears back, and swatted Pickle. Eventually Pickle got tired and started doing her speedbump impression, so we put her back into her cage and gave the kitten a rest. Chaucer is getting big already. He’s put on some weight, which is awesome because he was all skinny when we got him.
Work has been crazy this past week. We’re in the middle of converting to a new rx system and new registers. It’s insane. Trying to convince the old people to use the little electronic screen to sign for their scripts rather than signing a little sticker for the log book is difficult. They don’t like the new phone system. I figure it will be a week or two before we start getting complaints about the labels being different.
Nanny is having good days and bad days. Her mind is going, most likely due to the cancer, she’s in pain, she sleepwalks; my mom is fortunate at this point that my aunt is up and helping to care for her, but she leaves in a couple of weeks so Mom isn’t entirely sure what will happen at that point. This weekend we’re having a big family gathering at Mom’s house, a clambake with a few lobsters and some fish and chicken for those who don’t like the clams.
Well, today’s the big inking day for us. I found several images that I was going to use to incorporate into Eddie’s design, and wouldn’t you know he prefers the one I doodled on a peice of scrap paper at work the other night. Mom and Brian are coming over this afternoon and we’re all driving up to Electric Ink together. I’m not sure if Brian is getting anything done.
Chaucer and Pickle fought over who held supreme rule over the bathtub last night. Only one animal could be in the tub at once. It was pretty funny to watch them hop into the tub and then switch places. They also have a game like the Whack-A-Mole games at Chuck E. Cheese, except it involves a ferret poking her head out from under the couch and a cat using his paw as a mallet.
We just got done watching Transformers. If you thought too hard about the plot, you missed the cool special effects. I’m happy it wasn’t something we paid money to go see in the theater.
Ah, Fridays. How I love thee. We were the first store in our district to switch over to the new store computer system this week. It’s not too bad, but it’s a lot of shit to get used to. It’s kind of like starting a new job, learning an entirely different program to do the same exact thing. We do have a couple of people who are trainers for this system in our store, however one of them really shouldn’t be training because she’s just way too sarcastic to teach anyone effectively.
We got a ferret playpen for Pickle, left it unhooked, and stretched it across the entryway to the kitchen and around the fridge/dishwasher so that she’s got free run of the house while we’re home. Chaucer is a lot more playful towards her when she’s not in the bedroom, probably because Pickle’s on his turf. I think he’s settling in as well, because he’s a lot more playful in general. He’s decided that attacking feet under the blankets is a fun early morning game, and that sitting outside Pickle’s cage taunting her with his freedom to roam the house is grat fun. At this very moment he’s sitting on my lap, quite disgusted that I’m typing and not petting him.
Tomorrow is tattoo day for me, Eddie, and my mother. My swallows and Latin are finished. I tweaked them a bit the other day and I find them perfect, but if I keep playing with them they’ll end up something that I’m not pleased with as much, and if I’m going to get them the way I plan to, I’d like to be happy with them forever. My mother had picked some sort of swallow that she liked out of a magazine, but I can’t find the magazine and the swallow wasn’t all that spectacular so I sort of redesigned it a bit for her. Now I just need to do Eddie’s and we’ll be all set, which is incredibly difficult because he wants something done in a style that I’m completely not good at. I’ll work on it a bit more today, then let the artist do more with it.
Chaucer the kitten is doing fine so far. Aside from being an extremely picky eater and liking to snuggle Eddie more than me, he’s fantastic. We’re taking him over to Mom’s house again tonight because he and Nanny got along fabulously and anything that makes Nanny happy is a good thing right now (which probably explains the fact that we’re having corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight in the middle of summer).
I’ve been productive this morning and it’s only 9:30am. I went and renewed my license and bought more milk for the house. Later I’ll walk the rent down to the office, check the mail, scoop the cat box, clean Pickle’s cage, and put the clothes away. I’ve also got another box to unpack, and a tattoo to figure out and design for Eddie because he’s in an undecided stage about what he wants to get done when/if we go this weekend. I’ve got my swallows colored the way that I like them, and I managed to get my two phrases translated, and now all that remains is to get the lettering and the scrolls properly squared away in my design.
