A Little About Me...

I'm just a 31 year old chick from Rhode Island, married to a Canadian, tattooed, childfree, and a World of Warcraft addict. I fancy myself a photographer, or an artist, but who am I kidding - I count pills and sell drugs to junkies.

Disclaimer

I write about everything. If you don't like it, if it's too personal, if you don't want to hear it, if it offends you, if it's about you, I don't care.

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Bleeding Ears

Eddie and Robin were discussing musical tastes the other night via Twiter, and Eddie made the comment that I listen to a lot of things that make him want to swallow his own tongue. I’d like to point out the fact that swallowing his own tongue wouldn’t help him much because he’d still be forced to listen to my eclectic musical tastes. ed was here. [Note: Eddie typed that while I was upstairs talking to my Mother]

I’m one of those people who will listen to anything. There’s a lot of people out there who, when asked what sort of music they like, will reply with “Oh, I like everything. Everything except ______.” Some people can’t tolerate country, others can’t handle rap, and some folks just can’t listen to Tuvan throat singing. I was one of those people once. I remember unpacking my things in my dorm room and setting up my radio. My roommate and I were talking about music and she asked me what I liked, and my reply was “Everything but country.” Naturally, Murphy’s Law being in effect, Lori listened to country almost exclusively. But I made an effort to listen to her musical choices, and although I think she got annoyed by Simon and Garfunkel and Beastie Boys, I soon was able to appreciate Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Reba, and a handful of other artists that played on the local country station back in 1995.

My Last.FM profile shows a lot of rock and alternative artists in my charts, but what probably drives Eddie insane is the fact that I never listen to one genre at once. I leave iTunes on shuffle and rarely skip anything. For instance, this is the last 10 songs I’ve played:

  • Guns N’ Roses – Paradise City
  • Tubeway Army – Down in the Park
  • Great Big Sea – When I’m Up (Live)
  • Lily Allen – Nan You’re a Window Shopper
  • Fall Out Boy – My Heart Is The Worst Kind Of Weapon [Demo]
  • The Tragically Hip – Fireworks
  • Journey – What I Needed
  • Neko Case – I Wish I Was the Moon
  • Meat Loaf – What Ever Happened to Saturday Night
  • Bob Seger – Night Moves
  • Bif Naked – I Love Myself Today

Between the shuffling styles and the artists he just doesn’t like, it’s enough to make anyone swallow their tongue sometimes. Anyone got any suggestions on what else to add to my song library?

Importing

After much finagling I finally managed to get the music off of the iPod last night, song by individual song. So today I’m spending the day working on importing the CDs that we’d previously imported a couple of months ago while Eddie is at work. It gives me something to do and keeps me out of my own head, which is a decidedly bad thing lately. So I’m starting with one CD book and then going on to the less-listened to disks.

We had fun yesterday, going to Providence Place and hanging out there for a few hours. We each got a pair of new Airwalk sneakers (although I had my heart set on some bright pink Docs), then came home to use the bathrooms and see if there were any good thrift stores around our house. We hit 2 Salvation Army stores and a smaller consignment shop before we headed to the grocery store to grab some food. I decided that I wanted to cook, so I picked up some swordfish steaks and some stuff for side dishes, then we came home and played with the computers a little bit. We ended the night by watching the last few episodes of Firefly and part of SNL before falling asleep.
