the cat is sleeping beside me and he’s all cute and cuddly. Mom’s monitor has completely died so our Internet is limited to the iPod. We had a buttload of fun at robin’s wedding on Sunday and didn’t even get lost getting there. Almost got lost on the way back thought.
We’re looking at getting some insane thunderstorms tonight. We already had some earlier.
More to come… Eventually.
It’s been a very low-key week here at the house. With Eddie spraining his back last week, it’s only been the last two or three days that we’ve been able to spend any length of time in the living room. Thursday night Eddie took me to dinner at the best Chinese place around, The Islander. We got there early enough where the wait wasn’t insane, considering that it was Valentines day and all that. He got me a cute little Tokidoki Cactus Pup (mine’s the one in the bottom right corner, looking very angry), which is now sitting atop the TV in the bedroom where the animals can’t take him and hide him under the couch.
Friday we attempted to get Eddie’s medical leave paperwork signed by a doctor. He’d asked about it on Monday when we were at the ER and they told him that the people at the information desk would be able to handle all of that for him if he needed it. The discharge papers that he received told him that if he was still having trouble after a few days to either go to the recommended follow-up doctor or go back to the ER, so we went to the ER to at least try to get the paperwork signed and brought into work. The first people told him no and that he needed to go to the other doctor. We went to the other MD’s offices and the earliest appointment we could get him was for next Thursday, but they wouldn’t fill out the leave paperwork until after an examination. So it was back to the ER to try to get the paperwork filled out, but this time they agreed to get him an exam. 3 hours later we get to see a doctor, only to have him tell us that we really should have been told to go to some other office, which we now have an appointment at tomorrow morning. However, this office is notorious for not approving medical leaves because of some alleged shady dealing between them and Wal*Mart, even when people are obviously injured, so Eddie’s not hopeful. He’s gone without any of his muscle relaxers and stuff other than plain ibuprofen so that he’s in prime shape tomorrow morning, and with a little luck I won’t end up late for work tomorrow.
We went to Mom’s house last night and watched movies and had my birthday dinner. We also had chocolate cake and I got 2 pairs of fantastically cute shoes. I also got 6 more Kinder Surprise eggs from Eddie’s parents, which I’ve yet to crack open. We took home most of the leftover cake and half of that will be going into work with me tomorrow.
Chaucer’s getting big. He’s about 5 months old now and has created a bit of a schedule for himself. Starting at about 5:30am he wakes up, wakes up us by talking to us in the bed, and does kitten things for the day while we work. When we get home he becomes magically transformed into Lovey McSnugglepants and follows us everywhere we go in the house, whether we’re getting up to use the bathroom or just going to the kitchen. At around 10pm he turns into Bitey Psycho Kitty, and does crazy things like attack doorknobs and the coffee table or the couch until we go to bed. Even when we go to bed he’s still running around the house like crazy until he realizes that we’re not playing with him anymore, and then he comes into the bedroom and snuggles on the bed with us for a bit.
My mom got out of the hospial this morning. Eddie went to pick her up and drove her home, and she’ll be out of work for the rest of the week. We’re still waiting for results of a biopsy, but for now they’re saying she’s got colitis or diverticulitis. Either way, she’s looking at some diet changes in the future, probably needing to give up her ritual of buffalo hot wings on Sunday afternoons.
The store I work in is getting remodelled. It’s crazy, there’s people everywhere and we’ve got no idea where they’re moving anything to. Yesterday it was insane in there because it was Monday and A had to leave early for a doctor’s apointment with one of her kids. Tonight should be better, since it’s my short shift and tomorrow I’m fairly certain that I’m not working at all. I’m getting really, really, really tired of telling people how to work the signature pinpad, and I’m just as tired of nearly every single customer complaining about “this doesn’t look like my signature!” and “I hate these things.” You don’t like change. We get it. The only amusing thing at all is the old folks who call up and complain about how “the new girl on the phone doesn’t do things right”, meaning the automated system has changed and people are just too fucking impatient to actually listen to the options now. These are the people who just bang on the keypad until they get a live person, usually someone from the front store, which has caused us to be filled with dread whenever we hear “Pharmacy has a call on line 1″. We’ve started referring to that line as the moron-line, which isn’t entirely nice, but it’s oh so appropriate sometimes. Thankfully my schedule goes back to normal next week, and I’ll be able to watch all the season premiers for the shows that we watch.
Right now, Pickle is eating Chaucer’s food (not that it matters, since they’re both getting pretty much the same thing right now). Chaucer is sitting on the back of the couch, glaring at her. She chases him all around the apartment, which is really funny to watch. Hopefully once he gets bigger Chaucer will lay the smackdown on her, since right now he’ll only play with her if he can’t see her head. It’s funny to watch the two of them play with the crinkle sack, Pickle inside and Chaucer on the outside.
I got a disturbing phone call from Comrade on Thursday afternoon (I hung up on him without talking to him). I’ve got no idea how he got my phone number, since the only people who have it are my parents, Eddie, and work. Work knows better to give it out, and my parents wouldn’t do that to me, so my only theory as to how he managed to get it is that he got a copy of the police report from when the house was broken into. To make matters worse, I’m fairly certain that he showed up at work at the same time that I was leaving, which means that he went through the trash bags we’d left in the house and found a pay stub or something.
Yesterday Eddie and I relaxed together. We went to lunch at Olive Garden, went to Newbury Comics, Target, and Barnes & Noble, where we picked out a few books. We went to FYE and bought 4 DVDs, all used, and by the time we got home it was almost time for dinner. We surfed the web for a bit, ordered a pizza, and then watched Pulse and Cursed. We snuggled on the couch together while the animals chased each other around before they also settled down. Today we’ll be calling Electric Ink and seeing if we can stop in this afternoon so we can get some more stuff done. Because we like the pain.
The ferret is definitely enjoying having free run of the new place. This morning Pickle chased Chaucer all over the apartment. They went over furniture, onto and under the bed, there were attacks from above and ambushes from behind. And then finally Chaucer just laid down, put his ears back, and swatted Pickle. Eventually Pickle got tired and started doing her speedbump impression, so we put her back into her cage and gave the kitten a rest. Chaucer is getting big already. He’s put on some weight, which is awesome because he was all skinny when we got him.
Work has been crazy this past week. We’re in the middle of converting to a new rx system and new registers. It’s insane. Trying to convince the old people to use the little electronic screen to sign for their scripts rather than signing a little sticker for the log book is difficult. They don’t like the new phone system. I figure it will be a week or two before we start getting complaints about the labels being different.
Nanny is having good days and bad days. Her mind is going, most likely due to the cancer, she’s in pain, she sleepwalks; my mom is fortunate at this point that my aunt is up and helping to care for her, but she leaves in a couple of weeks so Mom isn’t entirely sure what will happen at that point. This weekend we’re having a big family gathering at Mom’s house, a clambake with a few lobsters and some fish and chicken for those who don’t like the clams.
