I currently have a paperclip stuck through my right ear because I was super bored at one point at work today and found myself staring at the clip and thinking “I could use that as an earring.” I started my new schedule at work this week, a sort of modified day shift. All but 2 days this week will have me home by 6:30pm, which is hella cool. I may pick up an odd Sunday here and there until the new tech is fully trained, but to be completely honest there’s not much of a need to have a tech in on Sundays.
We pulled some interesting things out of my grandmother’s apartment this weekend, such as several ancient books of sheet music that belonged to my great-grandmother, including the wonderfully perverted title of “Fun with the Organ”. Mom found a pair of racey undies, and another couple of bags of crafts, this time needlepoint for the most part. Most of the crafty things weren’t even started, or only barely started, but there was a needlepoint stool cushion that she had finished in 1989 that was never actually blocked and put on a stool. There was also a partially done needlepoint canvas that none of us remember seeing her working on. In addition to the sheetmusic I also took my grandfather’s copy of “The Bluejacket’s Handbook” and a scarf. It was really disturbing to be down there and have almost of of her belongings piled on top of her bed; it’s depressing to think that all that remains can fit on the top of a full sized mattress.
I’ve got a few crafty projects going on right now. There’s the crochet stuff, there’s a book that I’ve gouged up and its pair of papier mache drawers (god I love doing papier mache), and I’ve got a pack of stuffed bears to make. I’ll be sure to post some pics when I get them done.
Things have been rather good lately. I’m doing great at work, snagging extra hours here and there to do some testing for our upcoming system changes (oh the joys of corporate takeovers!) in August. I’ve nearly finished a baby blanket for one of Eddie’s coworkers, it just needs a border put on it and then it’s finished. We got the good news last week informing us that we’ve got some money coming our way, so the hunt is on for a new apartment. I really can’t fathom sticking around here for another year and maintaining my sanity. In the past year we’ve had the house broken into, the car rifled through, and a side mirror stolen off the truck. Not to mention the insane landlord who monitors our trash output and the neighbors who keep tabs on what we drive.
I’m a crafty fiend today since the WoW servers are down. I made my mother a dress and myself a shirt, both of which need a slight bit of adjustment but are otherwise pretty cute. I’m wearing mine at the moment, and Pickle has decided that Mom’s is comfy enough to roll around on. We’ll probably get some cute pics of them tomorrow while we’re at the parade.
Tomorrow is the 4th, which means it’s parade day in Bristol. Last night we could hear the fireworks at McCoy Stadium, and I’m sure we’ll hear more over the rest of this week. We’ll be getting up early and heading down to Mom’s house to drive over the bridges in her truck, and hopefully we won’t get rained on. Then later we’ll probably go to her house and eat, and see how Nanny’s feeling.
I haven’t gotten dressed at all today. It’s the best perk to having a day off, other than the sleeping late. The other night I had the most insanely strange dream. It was strange enough where I woke up to pee and found something in the bathroom to right down the main focus of the dream, which could be summed up with just four words: Rocky Horror Muppet Show. I showed my little dream-note to Eddie yesterday morning, and he thanked me for not elaborating any further on the topic. We then spent the whole morning playing WoW, and getting just that much closer to getting our mounts.
It’s getting warmer here in our little state; right now it’s about 80F outside, and it’s just a bit cooler inside the house. I broke out Pickle’s little pool this afternoon, and she’s been happy enough to swim around in the living room like she’s done for the past 2 summers when things heat up. She’s a bit bigger than she was last year I think, so I filled the pool up a little higher than she’s been in, so she was doing her ferrety snorkling for a little while. She’s shedding like crazy, and she’s got a funny, slightly mottled coat right now from where her winter fur has come out. At this very moment, she’s rolling around on the couch trying to dry herself off.
So far this summer I’ve made myself two shirts from skirts that I don’t wear. I’m completely in love with the one that I did this morning from a too-long denim skirt, which I just sewed some darts into and viola, I’ve got an adorable little strapless top with pockets and belt loops around the top. It needs some work in the back, but I’ll get Mom to help me with that eventually.
Eddie’s on his way home from work right now, bringing home some hamburger buns for our dinner. We’re going to spend tonight playing WoW, since he’s determined to hit level 40 tonight. Tomorrow we’ll finish scanning some photos for our Mother’s Day project while we watch our usual Thursday night .
I wish I could find some of my amigurumi books, I’m totally craving making something tiny and cute. Maybe I’ll crochet some WoW-related softies or something, that way I won’t need a book, since the pattern would have to be made from scratch.
Although I bet I could whip up another Moogle if I worked fast enough.
