I’m allergic to something. We’ve yet to figure out exactly what the culprit is though. Saturday I was fine. Sunday I was fine until I got home, when I noticed that my wrists were slightly itchy and red, but I figured that was from playing with Pickle and the other animals at my mother’s house. I put some Calming Cream lotion on my wrists, took some Benadryl, and went to bed. Yesterday my skin rebelled against the mystery substance with a fantastic display of swelling and red blotches all over my boobs and down one side of my body. The itchiness on my wrists decided to stick around, leaving me with itchy forearms all day. By the time we’d gotten home from work it had spread down my chest, across my stomache, all over my lower back, and across the entire upper half of my thighs. It was not a pretty sight at all. Adding to the mix were several smaller splotches on my neck and around my mouth. We were debating at work about whether or not I had the plague or leprosy, and which customer(s) I may have caught it from.
Last night I managed to coat roughly half of my body with a mix of Benedry cream and hydrocortizone cream (with a little help from Eddie getting those hard to reach spots). I took a few Benedryl tabs for good measure and then went to bed after Heroes was over. In fact, I took more than the recommended dosage of the tabs in hopes that whatever allergic reaction was happening under my skin would stop and let me sleep, but I still woke up several times because I felt like I was sunburnt and covered in fire ants. When I did finally get up this morning, all the areas that we’d slathered with cream were back to normal. Unfortunately, all the areas that were normal when I went to sleep were red and itchier than hell.
I managed to get into the doctor’s this morning and was given about 4 scripts for the allergies. I’m still very itchy, but at least I’m not nearly as red as I was. Then we went to take Pickle to the vet’s office, and now we’re home. I called out because I looked like a freak, and now I’m pleasantly drowsy from the anti-itch drugs.
Tomorrow I get to register the truck, and then we get to go to my Dad’s for a cookout. With any luck we can get Pickle’s cage from my mother’s house after dinner, and get her settled back into the house.
I just got back from the doctor’s office after getting my lovely physical done and getting the results of my bloodwork and all that fun stuff I had done 2 weeks ago. According to my doctor, I deserve a gold star for my progress since the last physical. My cholesterol has gone down about 20 points; my good cholesterol is up a whole lot and my bad cholesterol is down a bunch. My BMI has gone from a whopping 42.5 to 30, which is fantastic. My thyroid is fine, and according to the bloodwork the only thing that really needs some work is getting more vitamin B.
Eddie has decided that since he cashed in his Walmart stock last week in fear that we’d need to pay to get the car fixed and now has $300 burning a hole in his pocket that we will be buying him some new RAM for his PC tomorrow, and if at all possible we might get me a new video card to replace the ailling one I’ve got in my box at the moment. We’ve both got tomorrow off, so we’ll go out in the morning and get the goodies, come home, install, and play WoW for the rest of the day. I’m sleeping better since stopping the Welbutrin, so maybe I’ll get a decent night’s sleep (that doesn’t involve aging martial arts stars) and enjoy my weekend.
We picked up the car on Wednesday. It’s not overheating and doesn’t seem to be spurting oil everywhere, but still doesn’t have heat. We can live with that. We ended up getting to Dad’s just in time for dinner, so we scored some of my grandmother’s homemade chicken soup and some bread and salad. Fantastic. Eddie got to meet another uncle and an aunt while we were there, which was good. Hopefully this summer we can get to one of the bigger cookouts so he can get the full effect of a giant Cotrone get-together. If he thought 4 people at a card game were loud, wait until he gets to see everyone together at once arguing about something completely assinine, like cock-fighting or sitcoms.
For anyone interested, the ultrasound of my boobs was fine, and it appears as though my tits aren’t harbouring any sort of evil beasties.
The doctor’s visit was uneventful. My doc is one of those who lets med students do the vitals and the occasional exam, so I ended up getting my boobs manhandled by both my doc and and the perky blonde student as well as getting 2 gyno exams. Thankfully there was only 1 pap involved. Apparently I’ve got an invisible UTI and lumpy tits, and have the scripts for a cream and a breast ultrasound to prove it. Not to mention that they think I’ve got a harmless little cyst near my cervix. I also changed to Lexapro, since as evidenced by last night’s meltdown the Welbutrin’s not helping much, and got myself put on the Nuvaring because I have a thing for shoving jelly-bracelets in my netherbits. I drove across the street to get some bloodwork done, so we’ll findout if I’ve got thyroid issues and whether or not my cholesterol has gone down at all, and tomorrow I go and get my bumpy boobs checked out, and then I go back for a followup appointment in 2 weeks to get a complete physical and go over all the results of these tests.
On the plus side, my blood pressure is fucking perfect.
Doctor’s appointment #1 this morning went pretty well. I had called yesterday afternoon to try to get in sometime soon because of the cough that’s kept me out on the couch to sleep this week, and managed to snag a cancelled appointment for this morning. Coincidentally, last night was one of the first nights I wasn’t sleeping out on the couch, and my cough has been fine all day. However, the doc says that’s the way these things go, starting off with a head cold, moving on to a nasty cough, and then disappearing before coming back with an even worse cough. She sent me on my way with scripts for another inhaler and an antibiotic. While I was there I mustered up an assload of courage and asked about antidepressents/antianxiety meds, and got myself a script for something that should help out a bit in that area. I’ve got another appointment in a month for a complete physical and “cookie-poking” (how Eddie once referred to a gyno exam).
Work today… off tomorrow. I’m spending the day at my mother’s while Eddie works. Hopefully tonight Eddie remembers that we asked to use Nanny’s truck to transport the ferret cage and I won’t need to drive down to Coventry, only to drive back up to Pawtucket with him following me with the big cage.
