A Little About Me...

I'm just a 31 year old chick from Rhode Island, married to a Canadian, tattooed, childfree, and a World of Warcraft addict. I fancy myself a photographer, or an artist, but who am I kidding - I count pills and sell drugs to junkies.

I write about everything. If you don't like it, if it's too personal, if you don't want to hear it, if it offends you, if it's about you, I don't care.

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

We’ve moved! Yay!

Glass Float
Saturday we spent the night at Mom’s house. It was just way too hot to stay in the apartment without the a/c. We got the bedroom all set up with a rug and set up our chairs and the cage and my sewing area, played with the animals, and generally enjoyed ourselves. I attempted to sleep through the night and failed dismally, decided to go against the original plan of sleeping in a little bit while Eddie picked up the U-Haul because I figured that since I’d been up since 4am anyway, I may as well go back to the old place with him and help pack up the computers and stuff.

A piece of advice for everyone reading this. Don’t ever attempt to move in 96F heat. You’ll be miserable, and no amount of ice packs stuffed into your bra will make you feel any better.

But we did manage to get everything out of the apartment that needed to be moved, and now we’re all happily set up in the basement. Eddie has made a lot of progress with setting up the new house while I’ve been working this week. The kitchen is pretty clear, the living room is finished, the bedroom has a few assorted things that need to get put away (clothes! more clothes!), and the bathroom has been converted into another closet which is acting as a storage space for all of my craft things, with the added bonus of a toilet and sink inside it. I could, in theory, craft and crap at the same time.

Late Night Double Feature Picture Show

This weekend has been busy. We got to Mom’s house at around 10am and set about doing stuff that needed to get done downstairs. It is with great pleasure that I can say that the following things are done:

  • The kitchen cabinets have knobs that are screwed on and work.
  • The bedroom trim has been painted, as well as the closet doors.
  • The bedroom is actually completely set up and ready for us to move in, complete with made bed and mini sitting area
  • The living room is cleaned out and set up for the most part. We’ll need to move the couch that is in there when we put our couch and tv in, since where it is right now will block the way a little.
  • We’ve sorted through stuff at home and decided what stays with us and what goes to Freecycle.
  • The Uhaul truck has been booked for next Sunday morning
Last night we went and saw not one but two movies, catching an early showing of Hellboy 2, leave one theater and walk to the one next to is and saw Journey to the Center of the Earth, which was in 3d. I’m pleased to say that I only acted like a moron once during Journey when something flew at the screen, and I’m happy that they didn’t make it too much like an amusement park ride like they could have (and do) with 3d flicks. Both movies were good for their own reasons, although I thought Hellboy 2 was the better of the two we went to. Plus, I totally adored Selma Blair’s haircut in Hellboy 2, to the point where I’m considering trying it out.

This afternoon we’re going to Mom’s for dinner and possibly another movie. This is really the last weekend where I’ll be posting that, and it’s a little strange to think about. However, it amuses me to no end to think that after this week Eddie and I will be the stereotypical gaming nerds living in Mom’s basement. I’m just waiting for Eddie to come get me and then we’re off!

I have little to nothing to say right now.

The Bristol parade was good, even if there were some huge gaps between bands/floats. Eddie and I ended up watching from the opposite side of the street from where we usually sit because the Prudence Island crew was there and had spread half of themselves about 4′ into the street, successfully blocking everyone’s view on their right sides. We weren’t the only ones who moved, either. There was some discussion at home after about how we may want to just sit on the other side next year. I managed to get a lot of good shots of people this year, as the camera seemed to be on good behavior for a change.

We did more work in the new place. Doorknobs for cabinets and big doors have been painted, if not installed (the blue one is installed on the bedroom door, and man does it look funky). The bedroom closet doors need to be done, so we’ll work on that over the weekend once we move the bed and the assorted pile of goodness that’s been sitting on top since Mom and I went through all of it 2 months ago. Eddie will paint the doors while I get the kitchen finished, then we’ll have all 3 rooms done, and be pretty much good to start moving stuff over there in 2 weeks. I still need to finish the curtains.

There was a bit of discussion about what to do with the bathroom, and we’re leaving it as is until we determine if there is indeed a mold problem brewing behind the shower walls as my aunt seems to think there is. To be honest, there’s probably a buttload of mold in there, if the wood’s not completely rotted away anyway.

And to end this small post, I’ll give a bit of an overview of how last Thursday was at work. We had an old man have an accident while leaving the employee bathroom, and my boss spent literally 20 minutes on the phone with a grown woman sporting a 103F fever for “a day or two” who was arguing with her about whether she’d be better off going to her doctor’s office and getting a shot of antibiotic in the ass (like he MD told her to do), or if she could just stay at home and take a couple of Tylenol, and she just wasn’t understanding that she was FRYING HER BRAIN. If I had the power to do so, I would have reached through the phone and beat some sense into her with her Tylenol. Add a splash of our regular junkies and it was a typical way to start my 3-day weekend.

I didn’t sew today, nor did I paint.

I am no longer allowed into Joann’s Fabric store unsupervised. Especially while they’re having a huge sale. You know that it’s a dangerous “omg there’s soooo much here that I want” type of place when I make the supervision-required rule myself.

Anywho, I bought fabric for the living room, kitchen, and bedroom. The kitchen fabric is white with tiny cherries on it, and the rest of the rooms are just solid blues (light blue and dark blue) and white. I’m going to attempt to match up the bedroom curtain’s stripe with the color change on the bedroom wall, which should be interesting to say the least. With any luck I’ll have them all done and hanging up by the time Mom and Brian get back from Florida.

Have I mentioned that I’ve never made curtains before? Thankfully, Eddie seems to have faith in my skills. I think.

I’ve decided to go with red knobs on the doors. I don’t think the yellow and white will be much of a contrast against each other. Plus, red has the added bonus of staying cleaner longer.

Flushmount just sounds dirty.

We worked more in the new place yesterday. I managed to get all but two of the cabinet doors up, and those last two doors can’t go up until I paint them (they weren’t painted with the rest of them because I couldn’t get the door handles off). We got a lot of the bedroom done, and we’ll probably need to do another coat on the whole room before we do the trim and stuff because there’s some really obvious uneven spots in the dark blue and the light blue will need a 2nd coat anyway. While I was putting up the cabinet doors yesterday I found two cans of bright sky blue enamel spray paint, so I used that on the door knobs on the bedroom door and on the heater vents. They’re all purty now. I spent some time last night on Lowe’s website looking at potential lighting for the bedroom, because the ceiling light in there now is awful. You can sorta see the “beams” in this picture, at least one of them is a heating duct. They both jut out about 8″ from the ceiling, and the light we’ve got in there now is mostly blocked by the ducts. I’m looking at getting either a pendant light with a short chain (otherwise Eddie will be constantly smacking his head on it) or something like this that will hang down a bit more than the typical flushmount light.

Eddie’s coming home at lunchtime so that I can take the truck and hit the fabric stores for curtain materials. I’ve never made curtains before, so this should be interesting. I’m bringing my sewing machine to Mom’s so that I can work on things over there while Mom and Brian are off in Florida next week and we take care of their animals, since we won’t have access to WoW for something like 10 days. This is also a sort of trial run where we get to introduce Chaucer to the other animals, which will also be interesting.
