Could you, would you, in a booth?
Today I did something I’ve never done in all my 31 years on this earth. I voted in a presidential election. I’ve been eligible to do so since 1995, but never actually registered to vote until this year. I never gave a shit, to be honest. Now, I guess it’s just because I’m - *gasp* - growing up a bit, I’m forced to give a shit about more things that I normally wouldn’t.
A major reason why I voted is simple. Eddie can’t vote here in the US. He pays his taxes like all the other good folks here do, but he can’t make a single decision about what his tax money does. He isn’t allowed to help decide who gets to make the rules. And yet, even though he can’t vote, he has followed everything about the election this year, from the first rumors of Clinton running, to the primaries, watching the debates on TV while I “watched” them on Twitter. Tonight, he’s currently camped out on the couch watching the election unfold on the news.
So today I voted. Obviously, I can’t afford to not do it, there’s too much at stake with this election. However, aside from the obvious reasons of voting, like doing my part to help keep the zombie-McCain out of office, my biggest reason for voting is that I CAN.
